DUCTILE
IRON
Ductile Iron, also known
as nodular, is becoming more widely used due to the fact that it
is comparable to certain steels but is more cost effective when
making castings.
Somerset and Watsontown
Foundries produce ductile iron in accordance with ASTM A536 standards.
Both foundries make 60-40-18; 65-45-12; 80-55-06 and 100-70-03.
Somerset’s size capacity ranges from one to 900 pounds,
while Watsontown’s capacity is slightly larger, one
to 1,300 pounds.
Ductile Iron castings
are used in many applications such as, valves, inlet guides, pipes,
pressure vessels and industrial machinery. Ductile is a preferred
iron for many due to its favorable qualities, corrosion resistant,
strength, good hardness and wear resistance.
